Despite rainy weather conditions, our team “mlands-dragons” and 35 other teams were looking forward to start the annual dragon boat festival on June 15th 2024 in high spirits and full of anticipation.
The first race determines whether a team is classified into the FUN or SPORT category. Fun teams usually only train for this particular event, while the SPORT category is dominated by professionals or sport clubs.
The two-month intensive training phase for our team, led by Gritt Schwarz, paid off. With a top time of 1:07.26 minutes in the first race of the mixed class over 250 meters, our team slipped into the SPORT category, putting them on par with the sport clubs and professional teams.
In this category our mlands dragons secured the 11th and penultimate place. On the long course of 1,350 meters they paddled to the 15th place out of a total of 28 participating teams. A great team effort for our hobby company paddlers – congratulations!
